Ebook About Most people called it a cult. But for twenty years, Josh and Caleb called it home. In Paradise, there is no television. No fast food. Just long hours of farm work and prayer on a dusty Wyoming ranch, and nights in a crowded bunkhouse. The boys of the Compound are kept far from the sinners’ world. But Joshua doesn’t need temptation to sin. His whole life, he’s wanted his best friend, Caleb. By day they work side by side. Only when Josh closes his eyes at night can they be together the way he craves. It can never be. And his survival depends on keeping his terrible desires secret. Caleb has always protected Josh against the worst of the bullying at the Compound. But he has secrets of his own, and a plan to get away — until it all backfires. Josh finds himself homeless in a world that doesn’t want him. Can Caleb find him in time? And will they find a place of safety, where he can admit to Josh how he really feels? Warning: Contains a hot male/male romance, copious instances of taking the Lord's name in vain, and love against the kitchen counter.Book Goodbye Paradise (Hello Goodbye Book 1) Review :
** spoiler alert **This one was tough to rate. I am right between 1 star for didn't like it and 2 for it was OK. I will go with 1,5 rounded up, because I enjoyed parts of it. It started pretty well actually. I have read some stories with religious cults, but this one was the most boring of them all. Maybe it's all my fault for diving in with big expectations. There are SO many 4 and 5 stars reviews, so I had such big hopes. Ugh, I never learn!!I expected much more here. For some reasons I didn't think the main characters would leave the compound so fast. And after they were free they didn't really face any challenges. They were fortunate enough to meet Washington, then they got to Maggie and Daniel's house and everything kind of fell into place. Then nothing really happens! Caleb works. Josh takes care of Maggie's baby girl. Months pass, they hide their relationship. There are some hot scenes, but I think it all happened a little too fast and wasn't credible at all. When Miriam came into their lives I had no idea what would happen. I didn't see it coming, Caleb wanting to marry her and for what.. some sort of duty and misplaced anger?! How was he responsible for what happened to her?? He didn't abandon her there, she chose to stay. And yes, what happened to her was horrible, but to want to marry her and be a father to her child is NOT OK!!! Especially when he said he loved Josh and Maggie and Daniel already knew about their relationship. I rolled my eyes big time and finished the book only because I was buddy reading it with my best friend, but it was a struggle... I found this story simple, bland and nothing really happened...Their wedding was sweet, but that's just it. Yes, they get their HEA and Washington being there for the big moment was endearing, but I just wished they would have taken down the compound, saved the other young girls, inform the authorities, I don't know... SOMETHING! ANYTHING! Ugh!!!I'm sure I will forget this in a few days. Nothing made me enjoy the story, nothing worth remembering anyway. Or maybe I will remember that Caleb was determined to marry a woman, even if he was gay, and said he loved Josh... still he was determined to make such a big mistake! He hurt Josh, and was about to condemn himself to a miserable life with a woman who deserved to find someone who loved her!!! What was he thinking?!? It was beyond childish and stupid!!!So I am disappointed and I don't think I will read the second book in the series. I reached my limit. 3.5 starsJosh and Caleb, the two MCs, grew up in a cult. All they ever known in life is what they were taught through their leaders. In this cult, if you are not man enough than you get tossed out. That is what happens to Josh. He has always been different and knew he didn't quite fit in with the men in his cult. They always degraded him and made him feel useless. Josh also had desires about his best friend Caleb, that if known, would get him severely punished. So, to protect himself he kept them locked away but even doing that could not protect him from being tossed aside. When this happens Caleb follows. Caleb who fits well with the standards of the cult leaves because he has no desire to lead that life. His inclinations are similar to Josh and he knows he can't stay because he would never be happy. Plus a life without Josh is not one Caleb wishes to lead. He just has to convince Josh of his feelings. When the two are out in the real world they have to restart life. They are opened to a world unknown to them. Luckily for them a former cult member, Miriam, who ran away previously, has already started a life in the real world and welcomes Josh & Caleb into her home. The two start rebuilding and even start discovering their feelings for one another. Feelings Josh struggles with because of what he was taught in the cult. To him men loving men is a sin. Caleb has to have patience as Josh works through his inner battle. It takes time but Josh learns to accept his himself. It was an interesting read and I did enjoy the relationship aspect of the story. One of the best/most emotional moments in the book is when Josh finally stands up for himself and puts Caleb in his place. I was feeling all the angst. I just did not enjoy how the ending felt like a rush to wrap up the story. I just wanted a little more...
