I love Invincible. It's a comic that hearkens back to the (almost) anything goes wonder of Silver-Age Spidey without ever copying any character or team or storyline. It's well-plotted, well-written, original and has characters you care about. But this volume is just marking time. There are some good character moments with Eve and with Kid Omni-Man, but nothing we haven't really seen before.A lot of the volume is taken up with a cross-over featuring another of Kirkman's creations, The Astounding Wolf-Man. That digression is fine for what it is, but none of the individual issues featured in this trade paperback advance the larger plot one iota. (Well, maybe ONE iota.) The crossover smacks of a cash-grab akin to the big two, where they have foil-covered multi-part epics featuring everybody and their dogs ... and absolutely no change to the status quo.I'm not saying don't get this book, especially if you've gotten every other ... but just be aware, it's a comparatively hollow experience held against previous volumes. My only gripe is these trades are slow to get collected. As usual, this is a lot of fun with Mark's dad finally escaping the aliens, Mark and Eve's relationship advancing, and more Kid Omni-man. Plus the alternate universe Invincibles looked incredibly cool.I also like Eve's scheme to monetize Mark's powers. It's ridiculous that more superheroes in the comic book world aren't doing something similar.
